Why it’s important to raise awareness of quality worldwide? How can quality professionals get involved?
Quality is a word with a variety of meanings; the meanings can also be situational. So in other words: the word Quality is BROAD with various INTERPRETATIONS.
Quality covers: products, service and customer wants, needs and expectations.
Definitions of quality:
– Quality is a way of managing
– Quality is a commitment to excellence
– Quality is conformance to requirements (Philip Crosby)
– Quality means “fitness for use” (Joseph Juran)
– Quality is the totality of features and characteristics of a product that bear on its ability to satisfy a given need (The American Society for Quality)
One important Month for all quality professionals is the month of November, “World Quality Month”
I would love to share my view about World Quality Month with you.
I know it’s a little bit early, but I just love that particular month. And we have to start preparing early to make it successful.
World Quality Month is something very precious to me. World Quality Month gives me a chance to talk about my passion: “QUALITY”.
It’s that time of the year that we, as quality professionals, use to celebrate, share, promote and inspire people around us. We use it to accentuate the advantages and importance of quality. It’s a great time to educate organizations all over the world about the importance of quality, what quality can do for them, and / or their organizations.
We as quality professionals have to raise the voice of quality by celebrating quality successes.
Quality plays a very crucial role not only in our professional lives, but in our personal lives too.
But to get good results (good quality of products and or service), management and quality professionals have to not only believe in quality, but also practice it. Be a role model for the rest, and continually improve your procedures and processes. Don’t only do it for a piece of paper. Don’t get me wrong, accreditation is crucial, but it’s only the beginning of the journey.
Keep yourself and colleagues motivated to improve, remember it’s all about continuous improvement.
But how can we get more people/organizations involved.
One important aspect is to show them the positive results they can achieve, and how they can get these results. People need more information; they also need to see what quality has done for other institutions. So, they have to hear, see, and believe in quality before they start focusing on implementing a quality management system.
Attend quality conferences, like the ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement: COMING UP: MAY 01-03, 2017 (there are many types of Quality Conferences)
Attending these Quality Conferences will inspire almost everyone, but also inject you with so much new energy to change, and motivate others back home.
Meeting other quality professional and discussing quality topics will help you come up with new ideas, and views about what quality is really about.
How important quality is, is as essential for someone just starting in quality as for someone practicing quality for many years. Quality is, and will always BE, very important, because “quality is in the eyes of the BEHOLDER (customer)”, and it will constantly keep changing.
